Henderson says Chevrolet Corvette is Safe
According to GM’s CEO Fritz Henderson, the next-gen Corvette is in development despite the company’s efforts to slim down.
The Corvette “pays its rent,” Henderson told AutoWeek. Henderson is a Corvette enthusiast, driving one himself. Although he would not specify when the seventh-generation Corvette would be seen, he did confirm that the vehicle’s development is on track. The current platform also is undergoing continual development, he said.
The future of the car was thrown into question when GM began cutting products and selling assets in a bid to staunch massive financial losses that have now forced the company to consider filing for bankruptcy.
Chrysler, which is in a similar position as GM, has discussed selling or closing its Dodge Viper operations. In February, Chrysler Co-President Jim Press said it had three offers for its sports car.
