They grow up so quickly, don’t they? To celebrate ten years of its hybrid sedan in North America, Toyota plans on celebrating the Prius‘ 10th anniversary here in the U.S. by finding the most passionate Prius fan in these 50 states.
Although the Prius first launched in Japan in 1997, the little gas-electric hybrid didn’t make its way to the New World until 2000. Since then, the Prius has developed quite a loyal following here in America. Although Honda’s Insight beat the car to the U.S. market by several months, the car continues to outpace rivals in terms of sales.
Can it outpace its rivals in terms of devotion? Toyota sure hopes so. The Japanese automaker is turning to its Facebook page to seek the most hardcore Priusphile in the country. Through August 13, users can submit videos or a series of photos that illustrate just how deep their love for the Prius runs. Of course, it wouldn’t help to also illustrate your love for gadgetry, ecological preservation, or community involvement.
Toyota’s admins will ultimately whittle down the batch of submissions to ten finalists, allowing users to then vote for an ultimate winner. The grand prize? Toyota will throw an official Prius birthday bash in the winner’s hometown on October 10, 2010 (10/10/10). Neat, but we’re sure any winner in California would prefer an HOV-lane sticker that didn’t expire in 2011.
