We’re not sure how best to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Volkswagen’s New Beetle, but if it’s a giant convoy of Bugs throughout Germany, you may want to head to Europe for July’s New Beetle Sunshine Tour.
Although it’s the fifth iteration of the tour, this year’s event commemorates the 10th anniversary of the New Beetle’s introduction.; While the original concept – the aptly named Concept 1 – was shown at the 1994 Detroit auto show, it took another four years for the production Bug to launch at the 1998 Detroit show.
The Sunshine Tour starts in the city of Luebeck, Germany, and ultimately winds its way to the coastal city of Groemitz, where the tour parks for a quick car show.; From what we can see, expect more uniquely customized cars to make the scene than stock Beetles.
190 New Beetles are currently registered for the cruise, but if you’ve a hankering for a European vacation – and also happen to rent a New Beetle for your stay – you can enter your car in the cruise at no cost.
