Is there any room in this world for another “special-edition” muscle car? Famed custom car designer George Barris apparently thinks so, as he’s lent his name to a new customized — er, sorry, “kustomized” — 2010 Chevrolet Camaro.
Dubbed the Spirit, the car — built off an SS model — is largely a cosmetic dress-up package. Barris’ touches include a two-tone paint job with contrasting highlights on the hood’s power dome and matching “aerodynamic spears” on the front fenders. The Camaro also receives a customized three-bar chrome grille, pinstriping throughout the car (including, it seems, the windows), Lexani chrome wheels, and the requisite Barris insignias and dash plaque. If that’s not enough, buyers can opt for color-matched wheels, scissor-style door hinges, or a vinyl top appliqué at extra cost.
Barris describes the Spirit as “the right amount of ‘kustom’” and affordable. On that last note, we’ve yet to see the price tag for the finished product, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see it carry a premium over the $34,795 a stock Camaro SS 2SS model commands. Barris will publicly unveil the car on April 10, at Community Chevrolet in Burbank, California — the only dealer presently offering the limited-production Camaro.
