Geneva 2010: 20th Anniversary Edition Mazda MX-5 Another Slice of Birthday Cake

Mazda Mx 5 20th Anniversary Edition

In addition to celebrating with a giant birthday bash in Japan, Mazda’s celebrating the 20th anniversary of its MX-5 Miata with the new MX-5 20th Anniversary Edition, which will debut at the Geneva motor show in March.

The 20th Anniversary MX-5 is quite similar to another special edition Miata — also celebrating two decades of existence — launched for the Japanese market in July. The car you see above sports minimal changes, and is bound only for Europe in a production run of 2000 units. Unique features include numbered stainless steel scruff plates, argent fog lamp bezels, 17-in. alloy wheels, the requisite 20th anniversary logos, and chrome sprinkled on the grille, door handles, and fascia. Three exterior colors are available — True Red, Crystal White Pearl, and Aurora Blue — and each comes with unique body-color painted decorative elements for the interior.

Performance data won’t change — power from the Europe-only 1.8-liter I-4 remains at 124 hp and 123 lb-ft of torque — but Mazda has added a brace bar to the front suspension, saying it adds to “an even more sporty and exhilarating drive.”

Memo to Mazda: Sign us up.

P.S. We’re still waiting for that Superlight edition, too.
