During the 2012 L.A. Auto Show, Galpin Auto Sports revealed plans to build a supercar dubbed the GTR-1. The project is intended to be a continuation of — and successor to — the Ford GT supercar.
The GTR-1 will be based on the 2005-2006 Ford GT, with the goal of bringing the supercar up to date. The idea is to make it look as though the model never left production. As such, the GTR-1 will receive unique bodywork hand-crafted from aluminum or carbon fiber, along with a modern interior. Galpin is planning around 1000 hp for the GTR-1, though no drivetrain details were released. In addition to the high-output engine, you can also count on a retuned suspension.
Galpin plans to build the GTR-1 to order, so expect personalization to be part of the package. Based on the renderings supplied by the company, the top-secret GTR-1 is still a ways away from being a production reality.
