After uncovering a defective part in its fledgling Fiesta, Ford has doled out a remedy and is resuming shipments to its stricken dealers.
According to the Automotive News report, the presence of a single component quality influenced Ford to stop dealer shipments from its assembly plant in Cuautitlan, Mexico. Ford President of the Americas Mark Fields declined to comment on the identity of the component but AN’s insiders said a seat lever was at fault. The now-remedied issue is another setback in the Fiesta’s debut year, as deliveries were also slowed last month when weather-damaged railroads halted the flow of Fiestas from our neighbors to the south. In an act of goodwill, Ford offered Fiesta customers waiting on delivery $50 gift cards.
The subcompact, available in sedan and hatchback forms, carries Ford’s high hopes after undergoing an extensive hype-up campaign. It went on sale in June and has sold 4377 total units through July. With delays hopefully on the back burner, Ford sees even greater sales and exposure thanks to continuous demand and awards like the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick.
