This August, you’ll have a chance to own select vehicles from Ford’s history, thanks to the automaker and RM Auctions. Vehicles like the Mustang GT-R and the 1962 Lincoln Continental “Bubbletop” Kennedy Limousine will be available — if you’ve got the money.
Set in Monterey, California, the Ford-themed auction begins on August 12 with vehicles from Ford and private collectors.
A number of Ford concepts and historical vehicles are available including:
2004 Ford Mustang GT-R Concept
This concept celebrated the Mustang’s 40th anniversary and previewed the legendary muscle car’s future. Based on the 2005 Mustang, the GT-R Concept had Valencia Orange paint inspired by 1970 Mustang Boss 302 Trans-Am race cars, plus a 440-horsepower V-8 engine.
RM Estimated Value: $250,000-$350,000
2003 Ford Supercharged Thunderbird Concept
Sporting much more power than any production Thunderbird, the Supercharged Thunderbird Concept was powered by a 390-horsepower supercharged version of the 3.9-liter V-8. The suspension was lowered an inch from the regular ride height and don’t miss the twin exhausts surrounding the license plate area.
RM Estimated Value: $175,000-$250,000
1903 Ford Model A Rear-Entry Tonneau
What’s expected to draw the most bids is a 1903 Ford Model A Rear-Entry Tonneau. The Ford is powered by an eight-horsepower two-cylinder engine and is claimed to be the oldest surviving car sold by Ford. The car is one of three originally delivered on July 13, 1903, when Ford was running out of money to pay his employees.
RM Estimated Value: $600,000-$800,000
2004 Lincoln Mark X Concept
Built on the new Thunderbird’s platform, the Lincoln Mark X is a peek at what might have become a real production car had the Thunderbird sold better.
RM Estimated Value: $200,000-$250,000
2003 Mercury Messenger Concept
This concept was named after the Roman god of speed and agility, and sported a front-engine, rear-drive platform. Ford said a 4.6-liter V-8 producing 302 horsepower would power the car, though the concept actually has no drivetrain.
RM Estimated Value: $75,000-$100,000
2001 Ford Forty Nine Concept
A tribute to the 1949 Ford, the Forty Nine Concept featured HID headlights and LED taillights. Power, Ford said at the time, would come from the Thunderbird’s 3.9-liter V-8 mated to a five-speed automatic transmission.
RM Estimated Value: $75,000-$100,000
2001 Ford EX Concept
The EX Concept was designed for extreme offroading and, unlike many of the concepts Ford is auctioning, this one actually drives. A supercharged 4.0-liter V-6 making 375 horsepower powered the EX, which was designed to get 50/50 front/rear weight distribution.
RM Estimated Value: $75,000-$100,000

I honestly forgot about every one of these cars, save for the Messenger. I would have loved to have seen that enter production — in many ways, it was a modern interpretation of the Ford Cougar II concept shown back in the mid-’60s. Loved it then, love it still — but pity it’s only a pushmobile.
