Ford Fiesta S2000 Rally Car Unveiled

We’d heard about the Ford Fiesta S2000 rally car being developed to compete in various rallys around the world, but hadn’t seen the actual car yet. Ford and its partner M-Sport unveiled the car yesterday at M-Sport’s headquarters in England.

Despite Ford and M-Sport’s previous work on rally cars dating back to the Escort Cosworth in the 1990s, this is the first global rally car to come from the duo. This means the Fiesta S2000 rally car will be eligible to compete in national rally championships around the world, as well as the IRC and S2000 World Cup. With the Fiesta S2000, Ford and M-Sport once again move into the top-tier category of rallying and can compete for overall victories.

“It’s a fantastic feeling today to see the car actually launched to the world after all the hard work and testing behind closed doors,” said Christian Loriaux, M-Sport technical director. “Everyone at M-Sport has had to pull together in order to get the Fiesta S2000 finished in such a short period of time.”

The Fiesta S2000 follows closely after M-Sport’s two-wheel-drive Fiesta R2, which has already taken class victories across Europe. With the addition of the Fiesta S2000, Ford and M-Sport now offers rally competitors a lineup that allows them to step up from national level competition all the way to the WRC in Ford vehicles.

Expect to see the Fiesta S2000 make its public debut this weekend at the Rally of Scotland, the final round in this year’s IRC series.
