Ford: 2010 Fusion and Taurus are Crucial for Success
When Ford launched the Taurus in 1986, its revolutionary design saved the company from bankruptcy. Fast forward to 2009 and Ford has once again found itself in a financial pickle. Although it is better off than the other two domestic automakers, Ford is hoping that the 2010 Fusion and Taurus will sell in large enough numbers to ensure a profitable future.
Back in 1986 the hot-selling Taurus was Ford’s mid-sizer. The company is hoping its upcoming mid-size sedan will also be a hit. Recently the Fusion Hybrid received an EPA rating of 41 mpg in the city making it the most fuel efficient mid-size car in America. With a price tag of $27,995 the sedan should be a strong seller. However, Ford is already having trouble obtaining enough batteries to meet the current demand for hybrids, let alone batteries for future models.
The 2010 Taurus, meanwhile, looks to break out of its lackluster mold and once again become an exciting and strong selling model. While we will have to wait until the upcoming North American Auto Show to know for sure, sources say the new Taurus will be a radical departure from the bland current model.
The 2010 Taurus will make its official debut in Detroit in January. The 2010 Fusion made its debut at the L.A. auto show last month and will go on sale in the spring of 2009. In the meantime, Ford will continue to gaze into its crystal ball and hope its new products can bring it back from the brink much like the Taurus did in the 1980s.
