This brief video from Volvo teases a new car dubbed Concept Universe. Precious little else is revealed about the car, although the video does show design sketches and the outline of the new car. It’s unknown whether Concept Universe will be an all-new model, or perhaps a redesign of an existing product like the S80 sedan.
From the pencil sketches, it appears the car will have a Porsche Panamera-esque steeply raked rear window, with the stern coming together in a rounded point. The profile, as seen under a silver sheet, also shows a curved roofline and tapered trunk design. Taken together, the style cues suggest this concept could presage a four-door coupe from Volvo. If so, the car would follow in the footsteps of the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, Volkswagen CC, and Panamera.
The video description says the Concept Universe is a design study that will be launched “shortly,” so it’s possible (but not confirmed) the car will make a surprise debut at one of next week’s auto shows, either in Shanghai or New York. Given Volvo’s Chinese parents, we wouldn’t be surprised if the automaker opts for the former.
