Toyota has released yet another video of the GT 86, and this one features some on-track action, Toyota sports car nostalgia, and behind-the-scenes footage of the car’s development and testing. The video even honors the 86’s roots by showing it in action alongside Toyota’s first stab at a sports car.
The video begins with the GT 86 and a classic Sports 800 parked in the middle of a race track, and the size difference between the two sporty Toyotas is immediately apparent. The cars drive slowly around the track together for awhile, until we’re treated to footage of the 86 driving solo and hitting apexes like a pro. But Toyota isn’t done with the nostalgia just yet though, as a vintage AE86 is shown drifting around a corner. The video then cuts to the GT 86 doing some drifting of its own, executing a solid power slide around a hairpin.
Next, Toyota shows us footage of the 86 undergoing various forms of testing. If these scenes look familiar, it’s probably because our spy photographers have brought you shots of the same test mules over the past year or so – though perhaps not as sharp and in focus as these official clips look. We see a camo-laden 86 drifting in the snow, then tackling the Nürburgring, until we finally arrive at the production version of the 86 driving on a road course. The video ends with the GT 86 parked in the middle of the track again, the final product of Toyota’s efforts.
Though you still have to wait some months before you can drive it, or more likely one of its rebadged cousins, this video could be enough to satisfy your Toyota 86 hunger for now. Check it out below.
