With three NASCAR championships under his belt, you’d think Darrell Waltrip is somewhat familiar with big V-8-powered race cars. However, as part of Speed’s coverage of the Bathurst 1000 this past weekend, Waltrip hitched a ride in a Holden Commodore V8 Supercar where he got to experience both left and right turns — all while screaming his head off.
From the get-go, it looks as if Waltrip is uncomfortable sitting in front of the Holden racecar. He’s wide-eyed and clearly concerned about the Aussie to his right who’s driving on the wrong side of the road. As he takes his first ride in a ‘real’ stock car Waltrip proclaims, “This is a geological oddity!” and, “You can’t race on a track like this! There’s no way!”
If a former NASCAR driver walked away flabbergasted by V8 Supercars, we can’t wait to see what the rest of the United States thinks when the series comes to the new Circuit of the Americas next year.
