Three automakers, three high-performance cars, and a whole lot of tire smoke. In celebration of reaching 500,000 Facebook fans on the Audi Deutschland page, the automaker sent an Audi R8 to perform donuts. At the same time, Mercedes-Benz AMG sent a C63 AMG coupe out drifting to celebrate reaching two million video views on YouTube. Oh, and Ferrari sent a 458 Italia pirouetting to celebrate reaching eight million Facebook fans.
In the Mercedes video, the C63 AMG coupe simply turns a lap of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca — while sliding at extreme angles and turning its rear tires into smoke. After showing the C63 AMG tearing its way down the famed Corkscrew turn, the Mercedes video politely reminds that the video was performed by a professional on a closed course.
Next up is Audi, which celebrated by sending an R8 out to perform donuts in an empty parking lot. Though it appears the driver is trying to draw the Audi four-ring logo, the resultant skid marks end up writing “500,000″ in reference to the company’s Facebook fans. This is perhaps our favorite of the three videos because, without too much music playing, you can actually enjoy the engine note of the Audi 5.2-liter V-10.
Finally, Ferrari pulled a 458 Italia out of the garage to go sliding and smoking around the skid pad at its Fiorano, Italy, test track. We think the Ferrari clip has the best cinematography of the three, as it shows gratuitous slow-motion, close-up, and in-car shots as the 458 Italia sublimates its rear tires.
