The artsy, overblown three-minute video shows the 2013 GS 350 in a variety of environments, from race tracks to winding public roads. Graphic cutaways highlight some of the innovations and upgrades that allow Lexus to claim the new car is more of a sports sedan — a taut body, powerful 3.5-liter V-6 engine, adjustable suspension, and so on. The soundtrack is a blend of fast-paced orchestral music and the Lexus’ exhaust note.
Our drive in a Lexus GS prototype revealed the new car to be much improved over the old model — perhaps even so improved that the 2013 GS may finally a legitimate BMW 5 Series competitor. However, we question whether buyers will be able to look past the sleepy, cushy image of Lexuses past. Will pumped-up marketing videos like this help?
