Coffee runs are never glamorous affairs: we’re usually tired, it’s usually at dawn, and we’re never in the mood to talk. The newest web series from Jerry Seinfeld, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, is the opposite: it combines funny people, cool cars, and a couple of cups of joe.
Seinfeld is no stranger to hot cars: he owns many, many Porsches and other classics and exotics. He also made history at this year’s Amelia Island Gooding and Company auction when he bought a Sunoco-liveried 917/30 Can-Am Spyder for $4.4 million, setting a record for the most money ever paid for a Porsche at auction. Seinfeld is also no stranger to this magazine: he famously represented Automobile at the press launch of the Porsche Carrera GT, wrote a story about his original Fiat 500, and lapped Monticello Motor Club on our behalf.
And it’s that Fiat 500 that appears in first video in the series (a promo video), along with an early Dodge Challenger, various old Porsches, and a Volkswagen Beetle. The series itself looks like a sort of automotive talk show, with comedians hopping into the passenger’s seat and having a lively chat with Seinfeld while he drives various cars from his collection. From the promo we can guess that Seinfeld’s first guests include Larry David, Alec Baldwin, Ricky Gervais, and Michael Richards.
