What does it take to build an Audi R8? Thanks to this new promotional video, called “Handcrafted,” we now have a better idea. The clip follows an Audi R8 as it is built from the ground up, with all 5196 components coming together to create the finished car.
The video shows the construction process of an Audi R8 from the very first step, when metals are welded, riveted, and bolted together. The body is assembled, the hood installed, and the entire car painted white. Then technicians bolt together the 5.2-liter V-10 engine, fit the transaxle, and drop the entire assembly into the back of the R8. Along the way, some of Audi’s 241 R8 specialists double-check measurements and alignments, polishing the car and installing badges along the way. The end result is a shiny white Audi R8 V-10. Its engine crackles to life and growls as the car is driven off the assembly line, ready to be transported to its new owner.
The 2014 Audi R8 is offered with three different power outputs. The 4.2-liter V-8 produces 430 hp and 316 lb-ft of torque, the 5.2-liter V-10 has 525 hp and 391 lb-ft, and the V-10 Plus model pumps out 550 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. Pricing for the 2014 Audi R8 coupe begins at $119,150 (including a $1250 destination charge and $3000 gas guzzler tax). The 2014 Audi R8 Spyder starts at $132,650.
