Since the 2012 Geneva Motor Show is just around the corner, General Motors is hard at work teasing the new Chevrolet Cruze Wagon that is set to debut at the Swiss auto show. The video below is a neat look at the attractive compact wagon, but seeing as the Cruze Wagon isn’t destined for our shores, it may prove a bit painful to North American wagon lovers.
Although the video focuses on the the transformation of the Chevrolet Cruze from sedan to wagon, a few brief clips may hint at the new front-end treatment of the face lifted Cruze. The Cruze wagon’s front end and side sheet metal have sharper creases, giving it a strong family resemblance to the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, and the interior appears more upscale than the current car (which was the first vehicle to start Chevrolet’s interior design revolution).
We think the Cruze Wagon would be an interesting addition to the U.S. lineup, especially since Chevrolet has already confirmed a Cruze diesel is coming stateside. Pair the two together, and GM could have a true competitor to the Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen TDI. Unfortunately, the wagon market in the U.S. is a small niche, so the chances of the Cruze wagon coming here are slim. Interestingly, the revised front fascia shown here could hint at a future mid-cycle facelift of the popular Chevrolet Cruze, but a GM representative declined to confirm it as such.
