Remember the Frankenstein Fiat 500 Abarth “Motore Centrale R230” we covered last month? Now two videos have surfaced revealing the mayhem the little beast is capable of. Watching the smoke billow off the rear tires of the tiny car playing in the dirt and an abandoned parking lot is a sight to behold!
The second video shows the Motore Centrale R230 roaming the streets of Italy after displaying the little monster’s 1.4-liter turbo four engine, mounted where the rear seats used to reside. Clear plexi-glass seems to be the only thing separating the heart of the little beast from the driver and lone passenger seat.
Apparently the stock Fiat 500 Abarth’s 160-horsepower turbocharged 1.4 liter inline-four and front-engine, front-wheel-drive setup wasn’t enough for Aznom and Lucarelli-Monza. They dropped a 1.4-liter turbo four engine, which has been tuned to 230 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque, in place of the rear seats so it can now drive the rear wheels. The suspension has been upgraded to handle the additional power and change in weight distribution.
Incidentally the original Fiat 500 was a rear-engined car –which featured a cramped rear seat.
Aznom hasn’t announced pricing of the Motore Centrale R230, but they plan to build only 30 per year. They also have a “Pista” track version in the works. It will be lighter and more powerful. They plan to up the horsepower to 280 and drop the weight to 2000 pounds and throw in an adjustable suspension.
