The Durango plays tug-of-war with an Explorer in one of a handful of new video ads Dodge has debuted.
The first spot in the campaign appeared during the MLB’s All-Star game on July 12. Ford’s Explorer and even a Ferrari play supporting roles in the latest ads that get right to the point with a dead-pan narrator, helping the videos stand out compared with other more enthusiastic ads on TV.
One ad features a game of tug-of-war between a Dodge Durango and Ford Explorer. “Finally, the showdown everyone has been waiting for,” the narrator says. “Two titans of the SUV world.” What Dodge make too clear is that the showdown uses the most powerful engines available for each SUV, meaning the Durango’s 5.7-liter V-8 may be paired up against the Explorer’s 3.5-liter V-6. We’d be more interested in seeing the same ad with two comparably equipped V-6 models.
Another ad called “Responsibility” demonstrates the Durango’s maximum towing capacity by hauling a jet ski, small boat, and even another SUV. Bet you’ll never guess which one.
Perhaps the funniest ad talks about the Durango’s surprisingly welcoming interior and the leather seats, the color of which is the same as that of a certain Italian automaker.
