It’s easy to see the performance potential of the new M5. But when all you can do is read about the car, you don’t get a clear picture of what it can actually do. BMW has come to the rescue with this short, yet tantalizing clip of the 2012 M5 – showing that it doesn’t just impress on paper.
The M5 is first seen casually taking corners on the track. The video then changes pace as the car power slides through a turn, giving us a few brief moments of sideways opposite lock action. The following scene looks sped up, but as the 2012 M5 packs 552 hp from its twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8, such speeds wouldn’t be impossible. As the M5 flies at warp speed through the esses, you can hear a hint of turbocharger whine. The tach is then shown winding up to the car’s 7000-rpm redline, delivering a sweet engine note in the process. After the M5 finishes its lap of spirited driving, the car is then shown cruising around the track, allowing it to strike some glamour poses for the camera.
Although the video only teases us with just a half second or so of drifting, it does let us hear more of that twin-turbo V-8 sound. After waiting months for BMW to completely reveal the car, this video only further whets our appetite for the new M5.
