Here’s a chance to see the feistiest BMW five-door in motion on beautiful roads in Germany. The clip below shows the M135i, a product of the new M Performance Automobile line, attacking a track and traffic-free roads in Europe.
First shown as a concept at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, the BMW M135i is now in production with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine producing 320 hp. Buyers get a choice between a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. BMW says the rear-drive hatch will hit 62 mph in as little as 4.9 seconds, and is electronically limited to 155 mph. On top of that, the carmaker claims the M135i returns the equivalent of 29 to 31 mpg in mixed driving.
Sadly, the M135i hot hatchback isn’t destined for the American market, so for now we’ll have to be satisfied with this video. The car shown is based on the new-generation 1 Series hatchback that’s sold in Europe, but America has yet to receive an updated version of the 1 Series coupe and convertible models. However, we hear a next-gen 1 Series will arrive Stateside by 2014.
We won’t pretend the clip has the world’s most interesting narration, but the BMW video does show the M135i barreling around twisty Bavarian roads, and allows us to hear the rumbling engine note of the BMW turbocharged six. It’s as close as we Americans can get to enjoying the M135i.
