Audi wants to show off its vision for the green, fun sports cars of the future, so the company has released this video of the e-tron Spyder. The promotional clip shows the plug-in hybrid e-tron Spyder driving through southern California while a voiceover espouses the virtues of the car’s unique drivetrain.
The e-tron Spyder was unveiled as a concept at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. Beneath its quirky, futuristic carbon-fiber body — it looks like a slightly modified Audi R8 supercar — lies a novel plug-in hybrid powertrain. A twin-turbo 3.0-liter diesel V-6 works with twin electric motors to provide 0-to-60-mph runs of just 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. Yet even with that performance on tap, Audi says the car returns 107 mpg
Audi promises that it will develop this sort of technology for future production cars, claiming it will be the top seller of premium electric and hybrid vehicles by the end of this decade. Until such vehicles arrive in showrooms, take a look at this video for a look at the e-tron Spyder.
