For the 2013 model year, the mighty Audi RS 5 finally makes it to the U.S. On today’s Feature Flick, Motor Trend’s Carlos Lago takes the high-performance coupe to Sonoma Raceway for some track testing before canyon-carving some back roads.
Lago is impressed by the high-revving, naturally aspirated 450-hp 4.2-liter V-8 and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission as well as by the torque-vectoring rear-differential that transfers power between the left and right rear wheels. The V-8’s peak horsepower arrives at 8250 rpm while 317 lb-ft of peak torque comes it at 4000 rpm, which Lago says gives it “a meaty 4000 rpm power band. Despite the Audi RS 5’s drivetrain and all-wheel-drive system, he feels the steering could provide more feedback.
After some laps at the track, Lago puts the dual-clutch transmission into automatic mode to see how the Audi RS5 handles through the canyons.
