Feature Flick: Shifting The 2012 Porsche 911′s Seven-Speed Manual

2012 Porsche 911

The seven-speed manual transmission is just one of many new features appearing on the upcoming 2012 Porsche 911. As the following video demonstrates, the addition of one more gear doesn’t make the driving experience dramatically different from a six-speed gearbox.

The seven-speed manual is simply based from Porsche’s PDK transmission, which means the first six gears feature normal ratios, while the seventh serves as an over drive gear that ensures the engine is quietly humming and sipping fuel during high-speed cruising. The narrator describes the PDK as “more dynamic” and “more fluid,” but we’ll be the judge of that once we finally get behind the wheel of the new 911 this fall.
