While it isn’t imported here, Honda still sells a Civic hatchback overseas. The five-door model unavailable in North America is now available in Europe as the Civic Ti, a car that purportedly celebrates Honda’s participation in the British Touring Car Championship.
Available with either a 1.4- or 1.8-liter inline-four, the Civic Ti doesn’t exactly have the chops or the power to compete in the BTCC — this car was designed only to look the part. Outside, the Honda GP body kit gives the hatchback some added flourish with new side skirts and front and rear spoilers. The special 17-inch Pro Race wheels are sourced from Team Dynamics, the motorsport firm handling Honda’s BTCC efforts. Like the great Japanese racecars of past and present, the Civic Ti is painted white – Premium White Pearl to be exact.
Since Pioneer is the Honda’s primary BTCC sponsor for 2011, the producer of audio/video electronics is giving each Civic Ti a full multimedia system, complete with a 3D touch-screen interface, satellite radio, and GPS. The system’s map database carries charts for 44 countries and a traffic message channel receiver to keep the driver up to date on on-road disturbances.
Just 500 models will be sold in the U.K., beginning this March. The 1.4-liter Ti will lists at 15,995 GBP ($25,700), with the 1.8-liter carrying a 16,995 GBP ($27,300) price tag.
