North America’s largest car rental company is adding about 5000 new hybrid vehicles to its fleet and designating four locations as “hybrid branches” in the state of Virginia, the company said in a press release this week.

Enterprise claims it already had the world’s largest fleet of hybrids for rent, and the additional vehicles it plans to add will double its total number of hybrid vehicles. All told, the rental company will have almost 10,000 hybrid vehicles like the Toyota Prius in the near future.

The hybrids will be available in 30 major markets, including Atlanta, Boston, California, Colorado, Detroit, Florida, Minneapolis, New York, Oregon, Philadelphia, Seattle St. Louis, Texas, and Washington D.C.

In Virginia, Enterprise has dubbed four locations “hybrid branches”, meaning they have a high concentration of new hybrids available to customers that can be reserved online or over the phone. Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport, Norfolk International Airport, Richmond International Airport and Roanoke Regional Airport are the four locations that have received the hybrid branch designation.

Enterprise also eight “E85/FlexFuel” branches, where up to 30 percent of the local fleets are comprised of vehicles capable of running on E85.

“Whether they’re traveling for business or pleasure, our customers continue to seek out environmentally friendly and fuel-efficient vehicle options,” said Brian Duffy, the vice president and general manager of Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Virginia. “Doubling our fleet of hybrid vehicles nationally and making more of them available in Virginia is in direct response to that demand. This move also furthers our commitment to help grow the market for new engine technologies and alternative fuels.”
