EDITORS' NOTEBOOK: 2008 Porsche Boxster S, Day 1
Read Phil Floraday’s comments on driving the 2008 Porsche Boxster S.
I can’t think of a better convertible than this Boxster. Power comes on strong, but it’s enough fun at moderate speeds that it doesn’t immediately jeopardize your license. I even prefer the Boxster to a Cayman. Yeah, the Cayman offers more torsional rigidity and all that other stuff I’m supposed to worship as a driving enthusiast, but I feel so much more involved with the top and windows down and the soundtrack of that flat-six screaming behind me.
I’d like to see the throws reduced by about 30 percent, but I’m confident the aftermarket offers a suitable solution. iPod integration would be nice as well, though it never bothered me to just listen to the engine. Everything else feels so good in this car I can only think of a few niggles on minor aspects of the car. Awesome.
