EDITOR'S NOTEBOOK: 2008 Dodge Journey, Day 1
Read Sam Smith’s comments on driving the 2008 Dodge Journey.
Wow. I’m surprised – I was significantly more impressed with the Journey went I went on the launch program in Las Vegas a few months ago. Perhaps it was just the positive aura that often surrounds pre-production road-test models, but the steering felt tighter, the shocks seemed to be tuned a little sharper, and the interior was far, far quieter and seemed better screwed-together. Our test example has some minor fit and finish issues in the cabin (including a rattling, shaking shift lever), it rides about as tautly as a well-worn couch, and its spring tuning seems more in line with that of a minivan than a semi-sporting crossover-cum-large-wagon.
One thing that hasn’t changed is the cramped, unusable third row and the narrow, uncomfortable second row. Yuck.
