Remember the 650 hp Devon GTX that was scheduled to go on sale during the first quarter of 2010? Well, those plans have been canceled due to the discontinuation of the Viper, according to a source close to the project.
Powered by an 8.4-liter V-10 engine, the Devon GTX set two unofficial track records last year during testing at Laguna Seca and Willow Springs. The GTX was based on a Dodge Viper platform and used an aircraft-quality carbon fiber body to save weight.
The GTX was designed as a “quintessentially American” vehicle, and Devon Motorworks had planned to sell 36 vehicles per year. Ultimately Devon wasn’t comfortable with the volume commitment a partner required to keep the project going.
Despite the fact we hardly knew the GTX, we’re going to mourn the project’s death.
