Consumers Asked: ‘Would You Buy Your Car Again?’

2010 Dodge Challenger

Would you buy the same car you currently drive all over again? Consumer Reports asked that question of 380,000 of its subscribers. The independent research group has many interesting and many more not-so-interesting findings.

The new-to-the-list Dodge Challenger dethroned the Toyota Prius as the most satisfying vehicle. Reportedly 92 percent of its owners answered “definitely yes” to the question “Considering all factors (price, performance, reliability, com-fort, enjoyment, etc.), would you get this car if you had it to do all over again?” The Ford Fusion Hybrid, Porsche 911, Toyota Prius, Chevrolet Corvette, and all-wheel drive Acura TL round out the highest-ranked vehicles list.

For there to be winners, there must also be losers. Only 37 percent of Chrysler Sebring owners reported that they’d do it all over again. Ford stays clear of the 10 worst-ranked, with three being Chrysler models and the remaining seven GM vehicles.

U.S. automakers did make strides this year, though. Of the American models on the list, 9 percent of them made top honors, much higher than last year’s survey. European and Asian manufacturers fared a bit better with 23 and 12 percent scoring in the top tier respectively.

Let this be a lesson to the industry; the people want V8s! To hell with hybrids.
