Los Angeles-based tuning group fifteen52 will use the Chicago auto show to introduce its TrackSTer, a performance concept based on the Ford Focus ST. The TrackSTer is part of a collaboration between Ford, fifteen52, and racer Ken Block called Project ST. There will be two other tuned Focuses that debut this year as part of Project ST.
This TrackSTer is designed to add track-ready performance while still being easy-going enough for street use. It includes a short-throw shifter and performance exhaust from Ford Racing, as well as a stronger clutch, larger brakes, and Quaife limited-slip differential all developed for the Focus ST-R race car program. On top of that, fifteen52 upgraded the Focus ST with forged internal components, a reflashed engine computer, and a larger intercooler from Monotune.
“Teaming up with fifteen52 for this project was an obvious choice for me,” racing driver Ken Block said in a statement. “They’ve worked closely with both Ford Racing and Mountune to put together a potent package that blends on-road performance with on-track performance. I can’t wait to actually get this car out on a track and put it through the paces.”
It’s unclear when or whether fifteen52 plans to put their TrackSTer on sale, or whether the parts will simply be sold for customers to install themselves. Despite introducing it at the show, the TrackSTer won’t remain on display during public days of the Chicago auto show.
The standard Ford Focus ST (pictured below) has a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine with 252 hp, and uses a torque-vectoring system to quell under steer or wheel spin by applying the front brakes. Installing the aforementioned limited-slip differential, however, may negate the need for that electronic system.
