Maintaining its momentum from last month, the Chevrolet Cruze has once again knocked the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic out of the way for compact car crown in September. Meanwhile, it’s a tight race between the Volkswagen Jetta and Mazda3.
With 25,787 units sold last month, the Chevrolet Cruze came out on top, besting the Toyota Corolla’s 23,026 units sold. Although sales for the Civic are up 57 percent in year-over-year sales, the compact Honda still slipped from second in August to third in September. However, the Civic still holds the top spot in year-to-date sales, ahead of the Corolla/Matrix by about 11,000 units. The Ford Focus stays in fourth place and the Hyundai Elantra is back in fifth place with 18,305 units sold.
It’s a close race between the Volkswagen Jetta and Mazda3, with the Japanese car falling behind by only 719 units. The Nissan Sentra earned the eighth spot with 9345 units, though it could climb up the ladder once the new and improved model goes on sale soon. Although the Dodge Dart went on sale at the end of June, it’s quickly catching up to the Kia Forte and Subaru Impreza.
