We’re still a week away from its official unveiling at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but our colleagues at Motor Trendhave managed to snag photos of the Subaru BRZ out in the wild. The forthcoming sports coupe was seen near Germany’s famed Nürburgring road course.
The BRZ is Subaru’s version of the Toyota/Subaru rear-wheel-drive sports car that we’ve been hearing about for months — in fact, this isn’t the first time we’ve spied it testing in Germany. The Subaru will debut in concept form, christened BRZ Prologue Concept, at next week’s Frankfurt show. So far we know that the BRZ will be approximately the same size as a Porsche Cayman and Audi TT, it will be rear-wheel drive, and it will use a horizontally opposed engine rated at about 200 hp.
The Subaru’s camouflage tape can’t prevent us from spotting the same basic design that we’ve seen in prior teaser images of the BRZ. We see a wide, low-slung front grille; stubby tail with sharply raked back glass; and a wide, wrap-around rear spoiler affixed to the trunk lid. Those same styling elements are common to the BRZ’s siblings, the Toyota FT-86 and Scion FR-S.
We’ll know more once we see the car at Frankfurt before it goes on sale as the Subaru BRZ in spring 2012. For now, be sure to visit Motor Trend to see the full batch of photos.
