It’s been a loosely kept secret, but now it’s official: The Buick Regal nameplate is returning to the U.S. market.

The news comes courtesy of Buick’s official Twitter feed, which said the return of the Regal wasannounced this morning at a dealer conference. Although General Motors hasn’t released any further information, we wouldn’t be surprised if the U.S. Regal is quite similar to the car sold in China — after all, we’ve heard plenty of buzz and seen a number of prototypes to support this scenario.
If true, the Regal will continue to be heavily based off the Opel Insignia, a midsize sedan that was once slated to become the replacement for the Saturn Aura. Although the Insignia shares some of its platform with the LaCrosse, the two will sport completely different styling, and the Regal is likely to be the smaller, sportier model of the duo.

Where will this be built, GM? Here or China?
