The Edge is one of Ford’s best-selling vehicles lately, and I think I just figured out why. The crossover SUV is likely enjoying a big up-tick in volume because of a brilliant promotion involving Kellogg’s Hot Wheels breakfast cereal. The box features an illustration of the Edge, in its signature copper-orange color. The cereal itself is a mix of sweetened, oat-based circles and multi-colored dried “car-shaped marshmallow bits”.
Evidently, at kitchen tables all across this great land, kids are fueling up with Hot Wheels cereal (as part of a complete breakfast) and at the same time they’re enjoying increased awareness of the Ford Edge. They even have the opportunity to get collector cards featuring Ford vehicles, like the Edge, the F-150, and the Mustang. Soon they start pestering their parents to buy a new Ford Edge, and their parents, being lazy and indulgent, obey. Sales zoom. Simple as that.
