BMW Toying With Virtual Shop Manuals?

Virtual reality goggles aren’t typically found in most Snap-On tool chests, but if BMW has its way, that may soon change.

The German automaker is toying with applying “augmented reality” technologies to its service information. Based upon what the technician is looking at, a computer can display additional information (for example, installation and removal techniques, or even exploded parts views). Even if the computerized voice seems a bit bossy, we think it’s a better idea than having to continually run back and reference a worn, torn, greasy copy of a service manual.

Although the idea is merely a concept at this stage, we like where BMW’s headed with this idea. Check out the video demonstration of the AR goggles at the link below.
