For the first time ever, we’ve got spy shots of the upcoming BMW 4 Series Convertible with its top down. The 4 Series convertible (formerly the 3 Series Convertible) was spied testing in Germany enjoying a sunny 86-degree Bavarian day.
We’ve spied the BMW 4 Series Coupe and 4 Series Convertible testing in the past (and have even caught the coupe on video) but this is the first chance we’ve had to see the 4 Series with its metal hardtop down, though it doesn’t reveal many new details about its design. Both the front and rear fascia of the BMW 4 Series ‘vert wear heavy camouflage that obscures the headlights, taillights, and grille, though we’re expecting the 4 Series to look similar to the F30 3 Series. The main differences will likely limited to lower front and rear fascias plus trim details.
Thanks to the lowered top, our automotive paparazzo was able to snag a couple shots of the 4 Series Convertible’s interior before its minders could cover up. From the looks of it, the 4 Series’ interior looks to be identical to that of the 3 Series. It gets the same large centrally-located infotainment screen, iDrive, and instrument layout.
No word yet on what will power the BMW 4 Series convertible but it’ll probably have the same turbocharged four- and six-cylinder powertrain options as its 3 Series sedan sibling. The BMW 4 Series will likely be unveiled in time for the 2014 model year.
