Audi Aims High With New A8 and A7 Sedans

2011 Audi A8

Audi of America President Johan de Nysschen has high hopes for the company’s newly revealed 2011 A8 and forthcoming A7 sedans. De Nysschen predicts Audi will sell a combined annual total of 10,000 units when both cars are available.

The world debut of the 2011 Audi A8 sedan took place last week in Miami. Audi will sell a mere 3500 units of its flagship sedan in the states for 2009. Available in November 2010, Audi expects the annual sales of the all-new A8 to rise to a more respectable 5000 cars. A8 sales peaked in 2004 when 5,943 units moved off dealer lots.

Similar in size to the short wheelbase A8 and slightly more exclusive than the A6, the A7 will be priced between the two and have a “more avant-garde” styling than its big brother. “We clearly take lower levels of risk with our flagship,” said de Nysschen. Audi plans to sell approximately 5000 A7s per year when it launches some nine months after the A8. We’ve only seen the A7 in concept form at the 2009 Detroit auto show. Audi has been fairly tight lipped about the sportback since, but promises the production car will be very close to the concept’s looks.
