Vauxhall’s Astra has played an immense role in capturing bad guys throughout the United Kingdom for the past 30 years. The tradition continues as the automaker unveiled an all-new law enforcement model earlier this week.
Before reporting for duty, each Astra gets outfitted with a slew of custom gear in-house by Vauxhall’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO). The dash receives a bespoke instrument cluster specifically tailored to incorporate radios and computers. The cabin integrates mobile data terminals, video capturing, and other transceivers into a clean, spacious area. Of course, what’s a cop car without flashing lights? Multiple lighting packages are also available, and are installed by SVO.
Everything is vigorously tested in order ensure durability under real-world stresses. Only after testing can an Astra police special be delivered to the coppers.
We’re betting Vauxhall will have an easy time selling the paddy wagon, as one in five police cruisers in the U.K. is presently an Astra. How’s that for a sales pitch?
