All-New M Sedan May Be Highlight of Future Infiniti Lineups

2011 Infiniti M

If you saw the photos of the all-new 2011 Infiniti M, you’ve seen the majority of change Nissan’s luxury division may see in the coming years. A possible BMW 1-series fighter has been shelved, and development work on a new Q flagship has reportedly been canned.

Instead, it seems as if Infiniti will simply update its existing portfolio, hoping to infuse them with more features to enhance the brand’s technology-laden image.

The G37 range received an all-new convertible this year, but the sedan will see a slight facelift (i.e. new grille, front fascia, and headlamps) in 2010, accompanied by an updated interior across all three body styles. Infiniti had mulled the possibility of offering a 3.0-liter diesel V-6 to compete with the likes of the BMW 335d, but those plans are presently in limbo.

Changes to Infiniti’s crossover and SUV portfolio are even more limited. As much as we’d love to see the G37′s 3.7-liter V-6 stuffed into the small EX, the EX35 is expected to soldier on for some time with no modification, while the larger FX line receives a Bluetooth hands-free system as standard equipment.

An all-new large SUV is expected to be imported from Japan starting in 2011, but it’s unknown if the model will continue to use the QX moniker presently used on an upscale variant of the Nissan Armada.
