The front grille is typically one of the first things our eyes are drawn to as a vehicle approaches, and automakers go to great lengths to insure we associate the grille’s design with their respective brand. For the last twenty years Dodge vehicles have worn the unmistakable cross-hair up front, but that will soon change.
“We did as much as we could with the split cross-hair grille,” Gilles told Automotive News. The Dodge brand is “going a different way.”
The entire 2011 Dodge lineup incorporates the crosshair-grille, but the indicative design will soon be phased out from Dodge styling as the automaker is moving in a different direction. There’s no word on the future styling trends at Dodge, but the recently unveiled 2011 R/T models may hold the key to a an even more masculine future design language.
Apparently the decision came shortly after the split with Ram, but it was too late to change the revised styling of the 2011 lineup. Ram trucks will retain the iconic grille for the foreseeable future with Gilles stating that the decision to keep the cross-hair with Ram was “a no brainer.”
