Lexus LFA Only Available Through Leasing Initially

Looks like there will be no racing for pink slips with the Lexus LFA. Lexus has confirmed that it will not sell its supercar right away -- the LFA will only be available as a two-year lease for the time being.

Still over a year away from public launch, Lexus has decided to lease the LFA to discourage speculators. "If someone buys it the first month and then decides to sell it, that could be damaging for the ownership experience," said Brian Smith, vice president of sales for Lexus.

"We want people out driving the car and not just parking it in a museum or selling it at an inflated price," said Smith. Lexus wants to ensure that there are no wild dealer markups on its first entry into the elite vehicle sector.

With full customization available, an LFA won't be built until it is ordered. "You can personalize it right down to the stitching in the car," commented Smith. Lexus wants to make the two-year experience as memorable as possible to ensure repeat business. With no more than 500 examples being built, demand is likely to be very high.

The car will be available for purchase at the end of the lease term. Prospective customers may inquire about the car as early as March, there will be 15 LFA trained specialists located around the country to serve customers. Delivery can be made to any dealership and service can be performed at the same location. Lexus will provide tools and technicians to service the vehicles.
