First Official Photos of 2011 Volvo S60 Revealed

No, this isn’t the Volvo S60 concept first shown at the 2009 Detroit auto show. These are the first official images of the 2011 S60, which borrows most of its form from the show car.

Although the production car doesn’t sport the panoramic roof, pillarless doors, or the muscular rear fenders of the show car, the remainder of the shape is largely identical to the concept. That’s not surprising, seeing as Volvo has always maintained that the S60 concept was designed to give a sneak preview of the forthcoming production car.

Volvo has released very little information on the production car, although it does state the S60 will offer a new pedestrian safety system, which automatically brakes the car if someone walks into the path of travel (Volvo’s CitySafety system works in a similar manner, but is designed to avoid vehicles).

We’ll learn much more on the 2011 S60 come March, when the car makes its official launch at the 2010 Geneva motor show.
