“We’re doing some negotiations with the UAW that are going to go through in the coming months,” said Henrik Fisker, CEO of Fisker Automotive.
So far, it seems as though the California-based startup may find it easier to reach a deal with the UAW than Ford. Fisker has been encouraged by his talks with the UAW so far, and UAW President Ron Gettelfinger is confident a deal can be reached. Gettelfinger believes a deal can be reached with labor costs low enough to allow Fisker to export half of the planned production at the plant.
“I think from the talks we have had with the UAW and Ron Gettelfinger and some other in the organization that they’re ready to make this a success and they’re committed to it,” said Fisker. “We’re ready to work with them and for this to be a success.”
Another key factor may be how impressed Gettelfinger is by the startup’s ambition. “These guys seem to have it together. If you look at speed of execution for a startup, it seems sort of amazing what they can do,” said Gettelfinger.
“We’re very hopeful that we’ll be able to represent workers there.”
