Although Ford had long indicated such an engine would ultimately be found inside the Raptor's bay, the automaker waited until this year's SEMA show to talk specifics. The 6.2-liter is rated at 411 hp and 434 lb-ft of torque, making it one of the most potent engines offered in a half-ton pickup. Compared to the 5.4-liter V-8 -- the F-150's top motor and previously the only engine available in the Raptor -- the 6.2 pushes out an extra 91 hp and 44 lb-ft.
Of course, the extra power won't come cheaply. Pricing for a Raptor equipped with the 6.2-liter V-8 starts at $41,995 (including a $975 destination charge), which is almost a $3000 premium over a similar truck with the 5.4-liter V-8.
Ford will begin building Raptors with the 6.2 on December 1, but you'd better hurry to place an order if you're serious about buying one. Nearly 3000 orders for the monstrous F-150 have been placed since its launch in August, and we'd imagine demand for the larger engine (there's no replacement for displacement) will run just as high.
