As had been expected, these sketches show the Outlander Sport will closely resemble the Concept cX crossover, which debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt motor show. Like the cX, the production Outlander Sport will be built upon the compact Lancer platform. We expect a 2.0-liter I-4 to make an appearance for fuel economy reasons, and for front-wheel and all-wheel-drive variants to be offered. We'd really love it if Mitsubishi could build a case for stuffing in the mechanical bits from a Lancer Evolution, but the business case for such a model may be difficult (if not impossible) to develop.
The Outlander Sport will go on sale in Japan in February 2010, with worldwide distribution expected to begin shortly after.
