Next-Gen Nissan Micra Microcar Headed for U.S.

We've already shown you the sketches of the next-generation Nissan Micra, but corporate executives revealed today that the new microcar will be sold in the U.S., slotting in just under the subcompact Versa range.

Nissan's next micro-car, based on the new V-platform, will take on three shapes: a 5-door hatchback, a 4-door sedan, and a new multipurpose vehicle. Regardless of the body style, the new Micra will be dwarfed by the Versa. The new micro-car reportedly is only 12 feet long.

The new offering will allow Nissan to delve further into the A- and B-class segments that are rapidly gaining popularity in the U.S. Nissan claims that the V-car will have a 50-percent bump in fuel economy over the Micra (already an impressive 47 mpg), and will be less complex to manufacture and service.

The new V-platform car will be produced in 5 countries, and will be a virtually global car. Nissan plans to sell 1 million units annually around the world.
