Here’s another cop car that’s new to the market, although admittedly, it’s a little different than the new 2011 Chevrolet Caprice. Mitsubishi’s electric i MiEV microcar is currently being tested by a number of police departments across England.
Mitsubishi first showed the police-spec i MiEV at a trade show in September, and, according to a release, “has been inundated with requests” from police departments to give the electric Mitsu a spin.
Apart from the striped livery and the addition of flashing blue lights on the roof, the police-spec i MiEV seems to differ little from its production siblings. The car still seats four, has a range of 100 miles on a single charge, and a top speed of 80 mph.
That top end may seem like an odd feature for a police wagon, but the i’s small size and nimble footing will make it the darling of officers stuck in urban settings and meter maids alike. In fact, one department -- West Midlands Police -- will take delivery of its first come December.
