If Formula 1 chief Bernie Ecclestone has his way, the screaming sound of F1 cars may soon echo through the streets of New York City.

Although F1's last experiment with racing in the U.S. -- the U.S. Grand Prix, held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indiana -- was canned in 2007, Ecclestone still seems interested in bringing the series back to the U.S., and possibly to New York City.

While the Watkins Glen Raceway, a former Grand Prix course, is located in northwestern New York, the course would reportedly require millions of dollars in upgrades to bring it up to snuff to host the F1 circus. Ecclestone is reportedly eyeing a course to be built on a vacant industrial site on Staten Island, although previous reports have indicated a road course in Manhattan is also being considered.
